Cinema Pop Up is Popping up in WonthaggiA safe and cashless outdoor cinema to experience with family and friends. By news@gippsland - 26th February 2021 - Back to News After a year like no other, Cinema Pop Up is excited to come back to Wonthaggi this Labour Day long weekend, offering four nights of free movies under the stars from Thursday 4th March up to and including Sunday 7th March, returning to Wishart Reserve. Getting together outdoors is the best and safest way to spend time together, and Cinema Pop Up is proud to present a Covid Safe event in your local community.
Safe outdoor event
The outdoor event has been modified to ensure everyone’s safety with the following strategies:
- Capped numbers per square metres
- Cashless, card only candy bar
- Disposable covers on all Toyota Lounge bean beds
- Pre-booked online ticketing only
- Social distancing and sanitizer stations
All tickets are refundable and all guests are required to stay home and isolate should they be experiencing any symptoms on the day of the event.
Outdoor movie experience with free donuts
Featuring an outdoor movie experience at Wishart Reserve, Cinema Pop Up is about providing locals and visitors the opportunity to experience an outdoor cinema and all the entertainment surrounding the event in their local environment in a safe and fun way.
The TAC will be onsite at the event with a fantastic initiative, giving away free donuts to encourage all drivers to turn on the ‘Do Not Disturb’ feature on their smartphones. The free donut giveaway will be available for all cinema patrons, including those too young to drive. The Wonthaggi event will cater for all featuring the following family favourite movies, chosen with help by some of the locals:
- 4 March - The Croods: New Age
- 5 March - Inside Out
- 6 March – Turbo
- 7 March – The Emperor's New Groove
Cinema Pop up will run for four nights only, with limited free tickets available. Bookings are essential and only available online prior to the event at CinemaPopup.com.au. This endeavor is supported by:

- Toyota
Andre Palayan, Regional Marketing Manager - Toyota Australia said "we have worked closely with Wonthaggi Toyota to bring Toyota’s Cinema Pop Up to the Wonthaggi community. We pride ourselves on supporting and bringing local communities together."
Cinema Pop Up Director Kate Hardwick said, "we’re excited to bring an event of this calibre to Regional Victoria. During these challenging times, it’s more important than ever to be with family and friends. Having these magnificent partners on board together with support from Council means we can offer an experience people can share in together in a safe environment."
Bass Coast Shire Mayor, Cr Brett Tessari, said it is great to see this fun, family activity coming to the Shire. "What’s even better is that the community can attend this event for free if they book their ticket online," Cr Tessari said. "The Wonthaggi Cinema Pop Up is sure to be a great way to make the most of the warmer weather, for a family movie night under the stars."
The pop-up roadshow will feature:
- Bar for the adults
- Candy bar with popcorn and snacks
- Movies
- Music
Family and friends are encouraged to come along for a picnic prior to the movie screening with gates opening at 7pm and the movie starting at approximately 8pm.
Another way to spend quality time with family and friends outdoors.
Gates open: 7pm Movie commences at approximately 8pm. Event concludes at approximately 9.30pm. Tickets are free and only available online at cinema pop up.
