Know your time limit

Wellington Shire Council will be conducting additional Saturday morning parking patrols across the Shire in the lead up Christmas.

By Wellington Shire Council - 6th November 2006 - Back to News

"Most people are conscious of the parking time limits. However, as we get closer to Christmas the streets and shops are far busier and people tend to either intentionally or inadvertently overstay their time in car parks," said Colin Adams, Customer Service Manager for Wellington Shire Council.

Each year Council receives complaints from shoppers and businesses that are frustrated by people who stay too long in car parks and reduce the access for other shoppers.

Parking restrictions are designed to improve local traffic flow and allow people reasonable access to shops and the like.

"We also remind residents to only park in disabled car parks if they or their passenger are the holder of the necessary permit and have it appropriately displayed" said Mr Adams.

"We are encouraging all drivers to do the right thing and have consideration for others when parking, especially in the busy period leading up to this Christmas."

"Generally people are doing the right thing but we do receive a number of excuses each year from drivers who do incur parking infringements. We would like to remind people that it does remain the driver’s responsibility to ensure that they do comply with the necessary parking restrictions or road rules" said Mr Adams.
