Life’S Light And Dark Moments Exposed At GalleryLatrobe Regional Gallery is currently hosting Chiaroscuro, a unique exhibition of Robert Dickerson’s charcoal drawings based on the poetry of his wife, Jennifer Dickerson. By news@gippsland - 19th May 2004 - Back to News Latrobe Regional Gallery Director, Louise Tegart, said that Chiaroscuro, which means ‘light and shade’ in Italian, is a fitting title for an exhibition that reflects on ‘light’ and ‘dark’ moments in life, events, emotions and thoughts.
"Jennifer Dickerson’s poetry evokes feelings and images that are connected to the concepts of family, human relationships, memory, time, place and nature. The artwork of her husband accompanies her poems and depicts the emotions that she has so beautifully described, sometimes even taking her work to another level by illustrating new thoughts and ideas that are linked to the concepts in the poetry. This is truly art inspired by literature," Ms Tegart said.
"Chiaroscuro is an introspective and somehow detached exhibition, which delineates human beings and the emotions that they experience everyday of their life. Although Robert Dickerson is a well-known Australian artist, Chiaroscuro is one of the only exhibitions that has been designed purely to exhibit his works on paper," Ms Tegart concluded.
Chiaroscuro is a New England Regional Art Museum Travelling Exhibition curated by Jennifer Dickerson. Latrobe Regional Gallery will host the exhibition until Sunday 13 June 2004.
The Latrobe Regional Gallery is located at 138 Commercial Road, Morwell, and is open Tuesday to Friday 10am-5pm, and on weekends 11am–4pm. The gallery is closed Mondays and Public Holidays. For further information about exhibitions at the gallery, please telephone 5128 5700.
