By Portal Admin - 2nd June 2020 - Back to News The Andrews Labor Government has abandoned Victorian grain growers by refusing to stand with them against China’s 80 per cent tariff on Australian barley.
The tariff comes after many grain growers have nearly completed their sowing program for this year.
The Liberal Nationals have called for action to strengthen Victoria’s economic base as part of our plan to get Victorians back to work and back in business.
This should include investing in additional resources for our Victorian trade offices in Indonesia and India to expand our global presence by June 2021.

Andrews signed a secret Belt and Road Initiative with China so when is that relationship going to actually translate into protecting Victorian jobs, and particularly the jobs of Victorian farmers and their workers in the barley industry?
This is a big threat to Victoria, to our economy and to Victorian jobs.
By diversifying our markets and strengthening our state’s position in international trade, particularly our world-class agriculture sector, we can better protect jobs and the Victorian economy against unforeseen shocks, like tariffs.

This tariff threatens Victorian jobs and our economy. Labor’s attacks on the Federal Government only serve to further support the Chinese Communist Government.
Shortages during the COVID-19 crisis have shone a light on the need to diversify Victoria’s import and export supply chains.
The Andrews Government was elected to represent all Victorians. Supporting Victorian barley farmers should be Daniel Andrews’ priority, not furthering the agenda of the Chinese Communist Government.
