Get Caught ReadingTwo lucky young bookworms will be rewarded for their reading efforts this week when they receive prizes for winning Wellington Shire Council’s recent Get Caught Reading competition. By Wellington Shire Council - 30th January 2004 - Back to News First prize goes to 11 year old Rachel McGuire from Rosedale who receives a TEAC personal CD player, while seven year old Tom Johnson, from Yarram wins second prize of a $20 book voucher.
Wellington’s Mayor John Jago will be making a special presentation to the winners on Wednesday 4 February 2004 at 4.30pm in the Wellington Room at the Council’s headquarters in Foster Street, Sale.
Over 200 children participated in the competition, which was run during the summer holidays as part of Wellington Library Service’s Holiday fun @ your library program. It was aimed at promoting the positives of reading and encouraging young residents to pick up a book.
To be eligible for the prize draw each child was required to read 10 books at their own reading level. The two Wellington winners will be entered into the Victoria-wide Get Caught Reading competition draw later in the year, where they will have the chance to win more prizes.
