Seaspray Bus Launched

A new bus service between Sale and Seaspray has been launched.

By Wellington Shire Council - 26th November 2007 - Back to News

The weekly service will enable Seaspray residents to travel to Sale and people travelling from Sale to visit Seaspray for the day.

Approximately 20 people rode the first bus into Sale on launch day.

The service is being funded through Wellington Shire Council’s Let’s GET Connected Transport Project, in partnership with the Victorian Government and the Seaspray community

Sheryl McHugh, Wellington Shire Council’s Transport Project Coordinator, said a lot of work had been done with the community to assess the viability of a regular service.

"The Seaspray community wanted a bus service so that they could access services in Sale without relying on a car," said Ms McHugh.

"The service uses a school bus during its down time so it makes much better use of existing resources," said Ms McHugh.

"This service was developed with a strong level of community participation and ownership. I have every confidence it will be successful in the long term," said Ms McHugh.

The bus service is operated by Little’s Gippsland Coaches and will run weekly on Thursdays departing Seaspray at 9.30 and returning from Sale at 2.30pm. Timetables can be obtained from the operator, the Wellington Shire Council and the general store in Seaspray.

"The success of the service will determine if it can be continued beyond the initial six month trial, so Seaspray and Wellington residents are encouraged to support the service to ensure it can be sustained," said Ms McHugh.
