Re-lining of Ageing Sewer Mains in Lakes Entrance and Paynesville
Re-lining of 600m of ageing sewer mains in Lakes Entrance and Paynesville.
Work has got underway to re-line 600m of ageing sewer mains in Lakes Entrance and Paynesville.
The project is being carried out on East Gippsland Water's behalf by contractors Downer and is targeted at renewing sewers in poor condition, to ensure the reliability of sewer services well into the future.
East Gippsland Water's Executive Manager Capital & Service Delivery, Mark McNeil, said, "This project, which is expected to be completed by the end of October, is using state-of-the-art technology, which is designed to minimise inconvenience to customers while the re-lining itself is underway."
"First, a close fitting resin-impregnated liner is installed in short sections along the sewer mains. This liner is then cured using UV light delivered by a special little "UV train" sent along the mains by remote control. The process is rapid and very cost effective, doing away with the need to excavate and replace existing sewer pipes. The total cost of the project will be around $400,000. The end result is also expected to have a 50 year design life."
Customers directly impacted by the works have been contacted by letter and some local traffic management will be necessary during the course of the project.
