This determined group of local residents have worked on the project for over a decade. Woodland Cottages have been specifically designed to provide affordable housing for the older residents of Inverloch.

Last week, the Minister for Local Government and Housing, The Hon Richard Wynne launched the construction of the cottages. Fifty people attended the reception at the Inverloch Community Centre.

Mrs Jill Steer, President of IRACDC gave a brief history of the committee and the challenges it faced along the way.

"One of our major fund raisng events was the Inverloch Jazz Festival which has now become a very popular annual event," said Mrs Steer.

"It now attracts jazz bands and visitors statewide."

Mrs Steer acknowledged the dedication and enormous efforts of the committee.

"Our six members have worked incredibly hard," said Mrs Steer.

"And we’ve been supported in our efforts by the residents of Inverloch and the various services clubs, in particular the Inverloch Rotary Club.

Minister Wynne also congratulated the committee for recognising the need for affordable housing and for having the determination to see this project come to fruition.

The Woodland Cottages project is a joint venture between IRACDC, Bass Coast Shire Council, Community Housing Ltd and the Victorian Government.
