Explore ‘the shape of things to come’ at the GalleryBy Latrobe City Council - 30th September 2005 - Back to News An intriguing new exhibition is set to be launched in the International Power Hazelwood Community Access Gallery at Latrobe Regional Gallery. The exhibition will be the first for Gippsland resident David Lowe, and is part of the Gallery’s ongoing commitment to feature works by local artists.
Gallery Director, Louise Tegart said that the collection explored the interaction between shape and colour, and the various forms created when the two are deliberately enmeshed or counter posed.
"Lowe starts each piece with a simple geometric shape, or a single base colour, and builds patterns and images, in a very structured way, often with surprising results. The finished pieces can have a striking impact for observers, with seemingly familiar shapes seen in a new light with the use of bold colour," Ms Tegart explained.
"In his professional life, the artist works as a Strategic Planning Consultant to business, stating that making time to work in his studio helps him to stimulate his creative energies. Lowe says that the benefits then flow back to strategic planning work, giving him time to switch off, without shutting down completely," Ms Tegart concluded.
‘The Shape of Things to Come’ runs from Wednesday 5 October to Tuesday 18 October 2005.
The Latrobe Regional Gallery is located at 138 Commercial Road, Morwell, and is open Monday to Friday 10am to 5pm, and on weekends 11am to 4pm. The gallery is closed public holidays. For further information about exhibitions at the gallery, please telephone 5128 5700.
