Bass Coast Shire Council recently hosted a risk management train-the-trainer session for 25 officers from seven Gippsland councils. As a result, local not-for-profit community and sporting groups will be trained in all aspects of risk management.

"This training is part of Council’s efforts to help local community and sporting groups combat the increasing costs of public liability insurance," said Glenda McMillan, Council’s Risk Management Officer who organised the training.

"The training will help Gippsland local governments to conduct risk management training and programs for local community and sporting groups," said Glenda. "This will assist the groups in obtaining public liablity insurance and possibly lessen the impact of increasing insurance costs.

"These volunteer based groups provide vital services and facilities for the community but insurance costs are threatening their future," she said. "This training is part of Council’s on-going efforts to ensure the survival of these important groups."

Bass Coast Shire Council will hold risk management training for local community groups in October or November 2002. Details will be advertised closer to the date.
