Last Drinks At The Performing Arts CentreWhat happens when the underworld starts drinking at your local? By Latrobe City Council - 5th May 2009 - Back to News What happens when the underworld starts drinking at your local? According to ‘Last Drinks’ writer and director, Damian Callinan, you join the drinker’s relocation program. If you fancy a drink with Damian at the Criterion, ‘Last Drinks’ hits the stage at the Latrobe Performing Arts Centre in Traralgon on Sunday 10 May from 7.30pm.
Latrobe City’s performing arts and venues coordinator, Kathleen Roberts said that the show takes the audience on a one-man character-based pub crawl as the talented Mr Callinan artfully performs all the cast of regulars at the Criterion.
"This is a pub in the inner suburbs of everywhere. With no pokies, no wine list, no front teeth and now, no customers, the Criterion has survived the wowsers, the yuppies, the health inspectors and the changing face of pub culture but one night the underworld wandered in, pulled up a stool and it was time to call ‘Last Drinks’.
"Dual ‘Barry’ nominee, Damian Callinan, appears as a good-hearted junkie; a not-so-modest Irish barman; a Scottish grandma with a short fuse and thing for the horsies; an irritating ex-jockey with a penchant for detailing medical procedures; an acerbic war veteran; an underworld enforcer with a strong sense of civic responsibility and a psychopath who loves his kid but hates being left out of the television series based on his underbelly mates," Ms Roberts explained.
"Damian also happens to be Ireland’s foremost exponent of peripheral dancing (a phenomenon that doesn’t have to be seen to be believed)," Ms Roberts said.
Please note, despite Damian’s best efforts, he can’t control the language of some of the Criterion’s more ‘colourful’ characters.
‘Last Drinks’ is at the Latrobe Performing Arts Centre on Sunday 10 May 2009 from 7.30pm. For tickets or more information, contact the box office on 5176 3559.
