Redsox Victors In Grand Final Re-Match

The Edison Mission Energy Latrobe Valley Baseball Association season continued last Sunday with round five games.

In A grade it was the grand final rematch as the Moe/Newborough Dodgers battled the Traralgon Redsox. The game was played in perfect conditions and produced some magnificent hitting. A total of nine home runs were hit for the game. The Redsox started well with three runs from their first bat but the Dodgers answered immediately with four runs at their first dig. The game was even for most of the day but the Redsox consistency saw them triumph 21-14. For the Dodgers Tim Wilson had four safe hits whilst Simon Wilson, Brendon Date and Noel Tobias hit home runs. The Redsox Owen Godenzi and Brett Sharp continued their early season form with two home runs each and Mark Seeber and John Kus also hit home runs. Godenzi continued his pitching form with seven strikeouts.

The B grade game saw Moe/Newborough come out on top 15-5. The Dodgers took advantage of errors in the field by Traralgon after an even start that saw both clubs locked on two runs. The Dodgers scored seven runs in the bottom of the fourth to set up victory. Best players for the Redsox were Davis Long, Andrew McConville and Scott Pollerd. Traralgon comprehensively beat the Dodgers in C grade. In a fairly one-sided contest Graham Estcourt and Wells Humphrey hit home runs in a great team performance. The Redsox had there second game for the season in the under 18 competition and despite going down 10-6 the team showed some encouraging signs. Luke Hornsta had a double and single hit. Travis Hemming, Kate McKenna, and Rhys Gray each had a single, while James Cross and Steve Cox had two hits.

In the under 16 game Traralgon were victors 20-2, Steve Cox hit two grand slam home runs and Andrew Graham also hit a home run. Travis Hemming, Chris Griffiths, Brendon Solomon and Ashley Estcourt all had safe hits. The Redsox went on a home run spree in their victory in the under 14 match. Brendon Solomon had two home runs, while Matt McLean, Shannon Grass and Ashley Estcourt also hit home runs. The Dodgers won the under 12 contest 15-8 as the teams played with high spirits. A number of players from both teams managed to steal bases in a highly skilled contest. Moe/Newborough also won the under 10 tee ball.

This Sunday the action continues in the Edison Mission Energy Latrobe Valley Baseball season with round six games. The Moe/Newborough Dodgers take on the Morwell Cougars, Churchill host Yarram and Traralgon meets the Sale Rangers.
