Local Trail Riding Clubs Enjoy Long Weekend RideThe long Labour Day weekend provided a great opportunity for three Gippsland Trail Riding clubs to get together and enjoy some beautiful riding in the country around Hiawatha, south of Yarram. By Department of Primary Industries - 13th March 2003 - Back to News A group of 35 riders from Stratford, Yarram and Traralgon clubs stayed at the large camping area at Hiawatha, where great facilities for a wide range of groups and clubs provided a relaxing, clean environment for all in the middle of rain forest.
The president of the Stratford Club, Kevin Bass said that the toilet block and camping ground here were a focal point for many different clubs and organisations visiting this beautiful area.
"The benefits of such facilities are hard to deny when they help to keep the environment clean for everyone and encourage visitors to our region," Mr Bass said.
The trail riders were lead by the Yarram Club for three days of riding through some beautiful rain forest tracks, ferns and gullies, pine plantations and spectacular views over Jack River.
Sylvia McKenzie surpassed even her usual standard with her cooking for the weekend, with delicious roasts and even Christmas pudding and brandy sauce provided for hungry riders.
On the Monday morning, 12 diehard riders finished the trip with a short three hour jaunt lead by Yarram Club and then packed up and headed for home and hot baths.
The Stratford and District Trail Riding Club’s next ride is on Sunday April 13 and will leave from near Monkhouses’ property on the Back Wombat Road at the back of Boisdale. Cathy Noble is the ride leader and can be contacted on 51 454366 for details of the ride. It is graded medium and ride out is at 10.00am prompt. The chuck wagon will not be attending so please bring your own lunch.
For more information about the Stratford Club, please contact president Kevin Bass on 51 472798.
