Danny O'Brien applauds positive response to Victorian Container Deposit Scheme in Gippsland
Gippsland welcomes the return of the Victorian Container Deposit Scheme (CDS), marked by robust attendance at multiple venues. Danny O'Brien, Nationals Member for Gippsland South, commends the favourable reception within the community.
The re-introduction of the Victorian Container Deposit Scheme (CDS) has been well-received across Gippsland with many venues reporting a strong turnout on the opening days of the program. The Nationals Member for Gippsland South, Danny O'Brien said he was excited to see the scheme receiving such a positive response locally.
Danny O'Brien visited Tambo Recycling's Sale Depot, managed by Rhomi Webb, to check out the counting and sorting technology being used to facilitate the reintroduced Victorian Container Deposit Scheme
Take advantage of the CDS
Mr O'Brien said, "The return of the CDS was a policy that The Nationals announced almost four years ago and while it has taken longer than I would have hoped for the Labor Government to match that commitment, it is great to see so many Gippslanders taking advantage of this cashback offer."
"The initiative is not only a great incentive to keep recyclable products out of landfill but represents an opportunity for a little bit of extra cash in your pocket at a time when the cost-of-living is really biting," he said. Under the CDS, eligible cans, cartons and bottles can be exchanged for a 10-cent refund per item returned," he said.
Mr O'Brien said there were a number of local venues taking part in the initiative and that a full list of participating locations can be found online at Return It website. "For large quantities, I encourage you to take advantage of the high-speed counting and sorting machines available at many of the listed depot locations. I was fortunate to see one of these machines first-hand at Tambo Recycling Depot in Sale which can count up to 350 per minute!"
