Submissions open for Planning Scheme Amendment for Yarragon-Leongatha Road in Yarragon
A Planning Scheme Amendment applying to 28 and Part 63 Yarragon-Leongatha Road Yarragon has been prepared by Baw Baw Shire Council on behalf of Millar Merrigan and is available for public exhibition until Monday 11 July.
The application has been lodged under section 96A of the Planning & Environment Act 1987. Planning Amendment C145bawb proposes to rezone the affected land from Farming Zone to Neighbourhood Residential Zone, and protect a locally significant heritage site, Deloraine homestead, through the Heritage Overlay.

Proposed developments
PLA026/21 is the related planning application that seeks approval for a staged multi-lot subdivision and removal of native vegetation. It proposes the following developments:
- 304 residential sized lots
- One super-lot (anticipating an aged care facility or lifestyle development)
- Two major drainage assets to reduce and divert flooding from properties on Campbell Street, Market Street, Murray Street, Burnett Street and lots fronting Princes Highway
- Scattered public parks throughout
- The protection and preservation of locally heritage significant Deloraine homestead
- Design Guidelines for new homes to protect the rural township character of Yarragon
The planning scheme amendment and planning permit are submitted together for approval to allow for the best possible outcome for the community for Yarragon, and to ensure that the rezoning of the land is compatible with any plans for development.
Make a submission
Members of the public looking to make a submission in response to the proposed Planning Amendment are encouraged to attend a face-to-face consultation session on Monday 27 June, from 4:00pm to 6:30pm at the Yarragon Public Hall.

Residential use and development
Mayor Cr Michael Leaney said, "This amendment is important because it will provide for additional residential use and development of land in Yarragon, while protecting a site of heritage significance and ensuring new homes fit the Yarragon's rural character."
"If you have any feedback on the Amendment, I encourage you to attend the in-person session later this month and make a submission during the public exhibition period." Cr Leaney said.
