Sustainable eco-future framework

The Plan provides an innovative goal-driven framework that is focused on maintaining and building a healthy and eco-friendly environment in Latrobe City. This ensures a thriving and vibrant atmosphere is achieved for the community and will continue to be improved upon in the coming years.

The results of council's community vision were used to inform the Plan, which outlined that sustainability is of importance to the community. The community expressed a clear desire for a cleaner and greener Latrobe City into the future, with an economy which is driven by innovative and sustainable industries.

Sustainability priorities

To meet this desire, the Sustainability Action Plan outlines five long-term priorities:

  • Towards Net Energy Zero Emissions
  • Adapting to a Changing Climate
  • Cleaner, Greener Latrobe City
  • Connecting Community with Nature
  • Creating a Circular Economy

Latrobe City Council Mayor, Councillor Kellie O'Callaghan said that the draft Plan represents a collaborative effort, bringing together the expertise of community leaders, environmental organisations and dedicated individuals who are passionate about shaping a sustainable future.

"This strategic initiative aims to create a thriving community while addressing environmental impacts and conservation along with social wellbeing. Latrobe City Council values our natural environment and biodiversity and recognises the critical part that a healthy environment plays in maintaining a healthy and thriving community," said the Mayor.

Have your say

Cr O'Callaghan added, "This Plan details practical, achievable, and measurable priority actions that council will undertake. It will support community awareness, and foster partnerships within the community to support essential sustainable environmental activities."

"Community input is crucial for creating effective and impactful sustainability practices, council invites community to provide feedback on the draft Sustainability Action Plan which will inform the final Plan to support a greener and more prosperous future for Latrobe City," she said.

The Sustainability Action Plan is available for community members to read and review. Those interested are encouraged to submit their feedback through council's Have Your Say online platform. Council will consider the Sustainability Action Plan at the November council meeting.
