Community assurance in Latrobe City required as AGL Demerger dismissed
Latrobe City Council is calling for community certainty after AGL Energy revoked its demerger plan to split its generator and retailer arms into AGL Australia and Accel Energy.
These efforts follow the news that AGL Energy scrapped the demerger due to lack of stakeholder support despite recommendations from the board and an independent expert. The dismissed demerger and a change in board places uncertainty in the future-direction of one of the largest employers in Latrobe City.

Opportunity to strengthen
Latrobe City Council wishes to work productively alongside AGL Energy and its stakeholders to ensure an appropriate coal-fired power transition is made that supports the economic transformation of the region.
Mayor of Latrobe City, Councillor Kellie O'Callaghan said there was an opportunity to strengthen the collaboration efforts between council, AGL Energy, Latrobe Valley Authority, State and Federal Government and stakeholders for the benefit of the whole community.
Positive solutions for the region
Cr. O'Callaghan said, "Our City has been the heart of power generation for Victoria and our nation for generations. As the power industry shifts from coal-fired power we are dedicated to ensuring that our community continues to thrive."
"A significant amount of work has been undertaken for our Strength Led Transition. Council will continue to advocate for our region and our people as we balance this transformation. As a council, we welcome meetings with AGL Energy and key stakeholders, including Mr Mike Cannon-Brookes, to discuss positive solutions for our region," said Cr. O'Callaghan.
