Feedback wanted on renaming Baw Baw Apex Picnic Area and Lookout by 6 May 2024
Baw Baw Shire Council seeks public input on renaming the Apex Picnic Area and Lookout near Neerim South to Little Charli's, a name organically embraced by the community. Consultation runs April 5 to May 6.
Baw Baw Shire Council is inviting public consultation regarding the proposed renaming of the Apex Picnic Area and Lookout near Neerim South to Little Charli's Picnic Area and Lookout. Located 4 km north of Neerim South, overlooking the picturesque Tarago Reservoir, the local landmark has been at the heart of community discussions.

Community-endorsed renaming
The name 'Little Charli's Lookout' emerged organically within the community, with an unofficial sign appearing at the site sometime after 2010 and sparking interest and debate about the official naming of this scenic spot.
With consideration to the common recognition of the unofficial name, the Place Names Advisory Committee has endorsed this proposed change to reflect the area's local significance and unique character, subject to community consultation.
All community members now have the opportunity to voice their opinions and contribute to the decision to officially rename the site as Little Charli's Picnic and Area and Lookout.
Community input site renaming
Mayor of Baw Baw Shire Cr Annemarie McCabe said, "This consultation is a chance for our community to be directly involved in shaping the identity of this much discussed location. We encourage everyone to participate and help us decide whether 'Little Charli's Picnic Area and Lookout' should be the official name for this cherished local site."
All community members are encouraged to share their views during the consultation period, which will run from Friday 5 April through to Monday 6 May. For more detailed information about the history of the site and to get involved in the consultation, please visit Baw Baw Connect at Apex Picnic Area and Lookout Renaming Proposal website.
