Draft economic development and visitor economy strategies for South Gippsland
The Draft Economic Development and Visitor Economy Strategies are now out for public comment.
Council has developed the strategies in consultation with the Economic Development and Visitor Economy Strategy Advisory Groups. This work has been supported by extensive consultation that ensured the community, including residents, visitors, and key stakeholders, could provide input to help define key themes and priorities in both strategies.
The draft strategy is highly consistent with the South Gippsland Council Plan and is currently developing new economic development and visitor economy strategies
Draft economic strategy
This strategy is action-based and designed to focus on priorities where we can have the greatest impact. It also acknowledges the need to balance environmental and community priorities. It is an opportunity to re-imagine what role local leadership plays in the development of community identity and locally-owned industries resulting in market growth.
The strategy contains key themes that will guide council's approach to enabling this prosperity for the next ten years and into the future in South Gippsland. You can view the draft economic development strategy.
Draft Visitor Economy Strategy
Visitors are important to the South Gippsland region. The economic benefits are estimated to be $114 million per year and growing. Visitors are attracted to the pristine nature of the area, the abundant natural attractions and a rare authenticity. South Gippsland is not pretentious.
We are home to real people who are passionate about our area and proud of what we produce. Our attractions and experiences can be understated and sometimes even a little rough around the edges, but we wouldn't have it any other way
Both strategies are now open for community comment until 5.00pm 7 July 2021. Written submissions will be accepted via email to council@southgippsland.vic.gov.au or via post to Private Bag 4, Leongatha VIC 3953.
