Community feedback for Traralgon Recreation Reserve and Showgrounds and Glenview Park precincts masterplans from Latrobe City Council
Council has developed masterplans to redevelop the TRR&S and create a new community and events hub at Glenview park.
Latrobe City Council is seeking feedback on plans to transform the Traralgon Recreation Reserve and Showgrounds (TRR&S) and Glenview Park precincts into flood-proof havens for sporting and community groups. The plans follow severe storm and flood damage to facilities at TRR&S last June, with many buildings requiring demolition.
The 'Traralgon Recreation Reserve and Showgrounds Master Plan' intends to provide clear direction for future planning, provision and enhancement of sport and community infrastructure
Available for review
A new multi-use pavilion, pump track, walking paths, upgraded drainage, realignment of the Old Trafford Oval, second netball court, expanded car park, new playground and a range of other improvements are proposed for TRR&S. The Glenview Park plan involves developing a large outdoor events space north of the new greyhound racing track and building a new community hub with a purpose-built indoor sports stadium for roller derby and dodgeball.
The hub would house the Men's Shed, Bridge Club and a number of existing user groups. Upgrading the car park, building shared storage facilities, a new commercial kitchen and pavilion are also highlighted in the masterplan.
The master plans for both sites are now available for review on the Latrobe City website. Council has pledged $2 million for the 'Traralgon Flood Recovery Project' - which would deliver a number of elements identified within these master plans - and is seeking state and federal funding support to reach the $10 million benchmark required to recover from the June 2021 flood event.
The Glenview Park Master Plan intends to deliver the vision of creating a multi-use community space that provides both existing and future community groups with a long term home
Feedback on master plans
Latrobe City Mayor Kellie O'Callaghan said, "Not only do these masterplans represent an opportunity for displaced sporting clubs and community organisations to re-establish themselves, they include a raft of upgrades for existing tenants of both sites."
"I encourage local people and user groups from both locations to review the master plans and provide feedback to help us finalise the best possible plan to further develop these important community assets." Mayor O'Callaghan said.
