Public toilet works in Palmerston Street, Warragul are underway with $135,000 funding from Baw Baw Shire Council
Baw Baw Shire Council has begun refurbishment works on the public toilets located on Palmerston Street, Warragul.
The much-needed project is more than just a face-lift and will address accessibility concerns, as well as replacing timber walls and existing partitions. The role of the Early Years Advisory Committee is to provide information and advice to council on Early Years matters.
Refurbishments begin on Palmerston Street public toilets as part of the Capital Works Program is part of council's Long Term Infrastructure Plan 2021-2031
Project inclusions
The project will also brighten up the well-used facilities, and includes:
- Replacing existing wall tiles
- Installing new LED lighting
- Removing the existing heavy metal doors
- Replacing cisterns and upgrading the existing fittings
- Repainting and cleaning of the building's exterior
The works schedule has been planned to minimise disruptions to the public and is programmed to be completed in the following stages, weather permitting:
- Parents room: 25 April - 8 May
- Accessible toilets: 9 May - 27 May
- Female toilets: 30 May - 17 June
- Male toilets: 20 June - 6 July
Council's Early Years Advisory Committee helped shape the project scope, which also incorporated feedback received about the facilities from community members, ensuring the finished product meets community expectations.
Make a submission
The $135,000 project is part of council's Toilet Refurbishment Program and overall Capital Works Program that will see a $38.7 million investment in community infrastructure during the 2021/22 financial year.
Mayor Michael Leaney said, "Council knows how important public facilities are to our community, and we know that this particular project has been a long time coming for many. Investing in community infrastructure is a key priority for council, and this year's budget and the draft budget for 2022/23 show that. If projects like this are what community members want to see from council, I encourage them to get involved and make a submission before Sunday 8 May."
