Hallston Mechanics Institute and Warragul RSL Sub-Branch share in $1.5M to from local veterans from federal Saluting Their Service grant
The sacrifice and service of veterans in Warragul and Hallston will be further commemorated and recognised with Hallston Mechanics Institute and Warragul RSL Sub-Branch sharing in $1.5 million from the Morrison Joyce government.
Minister for Veterans' Affairs and Defence Personnel Andrew Gee has announced the 129 recipients of the latest round of Saluting Their Service grants, with applications covering a wide range of ideas to honour the sacrifice of our nation's servicemen and women.
The Australian government is inviting eligible organisations to apply for grant funding under the Saluting Their Service Commemorative Grants Program (the program)
Support to deliver the project
Minister Gee said, "We are very proud to support Hallston Mechanics Institute to deliver a photographic display at the Hall to commemorate locals who served in the First World War and Warragul RSL Sub-Branch to contribute to the construction of a new war memorial in Gulwarra Heights Memorial Park, helping the local community commemorate the service and sacrifice of those from the region who have given so much for our nation."
"It's clear from the number and calibre of applications that our communities continue to look for new and improved ways to commemorate the service of our veterans, with many exploring new technologies and reaching new audiences." Mr Gee continued.
"We received a huge number of applications from ex-service organisations, local councils, schools, and historical societies which show just how important commemoration is to Australians. The Saluting Their Service grants program ensures Australia's wartime history is preserved and the sacrifice of those who have served during wars, conflicts and peace operations is remembered." Mr Gee added.
Proud of the history
Member for Monash, Russell Broadbent said the commemorative project from Hallston Mechanics Institute and Warragul RSL Sub-Branch would continue the tradition of remembrance, and he looks forward to seeing the finished work.
Mr Broadbent said, "I am extraordinarily proud of the history of service in Monash and this project is a wonderful way for us to commemorate and reflect on the sacrifice of all those who have served from our communities. These projects will provide a fitting and respectful way to commemorate those who served in Hallston and Warragul."
Saluting Their Service is a national grants program and applications for the next round are now open. To submit your application, or find further details including a full list of successful grants, please go to the Saluting Their service page on the Community Grants Hub website.
