South Gippsland Council meeting snapshot - Wednesday 15 June 2022

At the start of the meeting, Mayor Davies acknowledged that the Torres Strait Islander flag is now being flown during all council meetings and all those who received Queen's Birthday honours. In particular noting Dr. Margaret Rowe OAM who received an honour for service to conservation and the environment.

Council is required to keep minutes of each council meeting, and be of public record and can be inspected by members of the public
Leadership program evaluation
Council noted the Community Leadership Program Evaluation Report. Five of the nine councillors spoke about this meeting item. In particular they spoke to the feedback they have heard from participants and the leadership opportunities it provides to our community.
For the planning scheme amendment request - 108 and 110 Parr Street Leongatha - Residential Rezoning Request, council supported the recommendation that this planning matter go before the Minister for Planning for approval. Council also considered the 2021/22 Community Grants - Round 235 in closed sessions due to the personal information provided by applicants.

With Round One of Community Grants for 2022/23 opening on 1 July, our Community Strengthening team are hitting the road to provide advice to the community. Below you can find the remaining dates, locations and times to meet with our team.

The Community Grants Program aims to support community initiatives that enhance the quality of life, heritage, recreation and cultural opportunities for South Gippsland residents
Senior of the year awards
We would like to encourage you all to nominate someone from South Gippsland who you think is worthy of recognition - for example, an Elder in your community, a member of a club you attend, a volunteer in your organisation. Nominations are open now until Friday 29 July 2022.
Community is encouraged to nominate someone they think that is worthy for the Victorian Senior of the Year Awards 2022
Request for tender
Council is seeking submissions from qualified companies/applicants for the RFT/328 Design, Supply and Installation of Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Systems. Tenders close at 2.00pm Tuesday 21 June 2022.

Mental health and wellbeing
For some, the psychological, social and economic effects of the COVID-19 pandemic have significantly impacted their mental health and wellbeing. If you are in need of some extra support, there is a free and confidential wellbeing coaching service one call away - Partners in Wellbeing, which is available to all Victorians over the age of 16. Road renaming proposal
Koonwarra Section - South Gippsland Highway. Submissions for the naming of the new part of the South Gippsland Highway at Koonwarra have now closed. The following names were compliant under the GNV guidelines and shortlisted: Milson, Barguss, Prosser, Fossil and Kinnish. Abutting landowners impacted by the renaming are now being consulted. Results and shortlisted names will be presented for consideration at the next council meeting.
