Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester said new sections of highway at Flynn and Kilmany will be in use this month as work crews make good progress on the final stages of the $513 million upgrade. "As a local MP and former Minister for Transport I have been passionate about this project for a decade because I know it will bring road safety and productivity improvements for our region."

Delivering safety improvements

Mr Chester said, "The work on the $250 million final stages has received 80% of its funding from the previous Federal Government and despite some wet weather issues, we are seeing new sections opening up and motorists need to be aware of the changed conditions."

"Please pay attention to speed limit signs and respect the safety of road workers who are delivering this long-term improvement to our transport system. In total, this duplication project covers 43 kilometres of new road and will deliver benefits to 15,000 motorists who use this stretch of road every day." Mr Chester said.

A range of safety improvements are being delivered including wider shoulders and centre median with flexible safety barriers to improve safety by reducing the risk of run-off road and head-on crashes, regular u-turn facilities, new turning lanes, a service road in Kilmany township, and a new rail bridge.
