Local community sporting events can now apply for support through the Regional Sports Events Fund of the federal government
Funding to support local community sporting events is now available through the Federal Government.
Local MP Darren Chester said local groups and event organisers could now apply for financial support through the Regional Sports Events Fund. "Coronavirus restrictions resulted in very little community sport taking place and now as local sporting events start again it's important we provide financial support," Mr Chester said.
The objective of the funding is to support local government area councils in identified regional locations to host sporting events to provide opportunities for community to celebrate through sport
Supporting the events
Mr Chester also said, "Most sporting events are put on by volunteers and without many opportunities for fundraising, these grants will help ensure these events can continue. Sport is such an important part of our local communities and many clubs are a hub for the community to gather and socialise."
Mr Chester said all three local government areas in Gippsland were eligible to apply and would require collaboration between local government and community organisations. "LGAs and community groups can apply for two streams of funding with grants of up to $50,000 available for events," Mr Chester said.
Engagement with the community
Mr Chester also said, "Stream one provides grants of between $1000 and $10,000 to support small community sporting events in very remote, remote, outer regional and inner regional areas. Stream two provides grants of between $15,000 and $50,000 to support large recreational sporting events in very remote, remote, outer regional and inner regional areas."
Events can range from 'come and try days' to larger events including elite sporting exhibitions and state level competitions that engage the broader community. Applications close Friday April 8, 2022. For further information visit Regional Sport Events Fund | Sport Australia.
