Federal funding boost to upgrade Bengworden Road in East Gippsland
Upgrades for safety and improved driving conditions that will also help support local jobs.
Major works to upgrade safety and improve driving conditions on Bengworden Road will be delivered with a boost in Federal Government funding. Member for Gippsland Darren Chester said $5.04 million would be spent to improve safety measures along the road.
Bengworden Road upgrade works underway to improve safety and driving conditions
Upgrades to be done
Mr Chester said, "The works will include the installation of safety barriers, shoulder sealing, audio tactile line markings to alert drivers when they are veering off the road and upgrades to intersections."
"This is a major arterial road carrying large volumes of cars and heavy vehicles every day. These improvements will improve safety and reduce the risk of fatalities and serious injuries."
Major boost to support local jobs
Mr Chester said the upgrades would also support local jobs during the construction phase. "The State Government owns this road but like many transport corridors across Gippsland it hasn't received the funding it needs."
"The major boost by the Federal Government will be welcomed by local road users. Importantly, there are strict conditions on timelines and the state has to use the money quickly or it will be redirected to other projects. While the work will cause delays and disruptions to road users, the improved safety will be worth the wait." Mr Chester said.
