Cape Conran campground set for major upgrade with new cabins, facilities and recreation area announced
Cape Conran Banksia Bluff campground is set for a $29 million upgrade, with new cabins, facilities, and recreation areas. The site remains open during works, with half-price camping available.
More Victorians will soon be able to enjoy the beauty of the Gippsland coast at Cape Conran, with works to upgrade the existing campground at Banksia Bluff beginning soon thanks to the Allan Labor government.
Cape Conran upgrades include new cabins, boardwalk, lookout, boat ramp, and amenities, with camping open and half-price fees during works. Water and wastewater systems will also be improved
Transforming Cape Conran
Acting Minister for Environment Gayle Tierney today announced construction to build a new multi-use recreation area which will host school visits and campers, as part of a $29 million investment. Visitor attractions and facilities will also include:
- Ten new cabins offering year-round roofed accommodation
- East Cape Boardwalk
- Salmon Rocks lookout
- Boat ramp for fishers and divers, shelters, bridges, barbecues
These upgrades will be making Cape Conran an outdoor destination for all ages. While works are underway, the site remains open to campers with the finished project to expand the number of people who can stay at this coastal campground - with Victorians encouraged to take advantage of half-price fees as part of the Labor government's $10.5m investment in Victorian Budget 2025/26.
The project will deliver drinking water to the Cape Conran office, the new cabins, activity centre and create a new wastewater system for the park. The opportunity for a shared-use path on top of a proposed pipeline was also explored, but following extensive investigation and planning from Parks Victoria, this option was found not to be feasible. To book a stay at the Banksia Bluff Campground, visit the Parks Victoria website.
Upgrading outdoor experiences
Acting Minister for Environment Gayle Tierney said, "Cape Conran is a spectacular place to camp, fish, swim and enjoy a vast range of outdoor activities on the Gippsland coastline stunning - this upgrade will mean more Victorians can enjoy our state's natural beauty."
"We know how important campgrounds are for local town economies, it is why we continue to make it easier and more affordable to enjoy our great outdoors with half price camping ground bookings," she said.
Member for Eastern Victoria Tom McIntosh said, "The community have waited too long for these works. The newly appointed leadership of Parks Vic are getting on with delivering these important upgrades to Cape Conran, not only a world class camping area, but an important asset to the economy of East Gippsland."
