Baw Baw Shire Council invites community to have your say on draft Road Management Plan 2025 15 August 2025

Baw Baw Shire Council invites community feedback on its draft Road Management Plan, which sets service standards and safety measures for over 1,800 km of roads. Consultation runs from 15 July to 15 August.

Baw Baw Shire Council's Road Management Plan is up for review, and Mayor Cr Danny Goss is inviting the local community to share their thoughts. "Our Road Management Plan is reviewed every four years. Community consultation is a really important part of that process," he said.

The draft 2025 Plan details road classifications, service standards, inspections, defect repairs, safety management, and invites community feedback until 15 August

Improving local roads

Cr Goss said, "We have a network of over 1,800km of sealed and unsealed roads and over 500km of sealed and gravel paths. This network continues to grow alongside urban development. Feedback received from the community will help us make sure road classifications are consistent with the current function of the road and that the plan meets the needs of the community."

As the coordinating road authority for all council managed roads, Baw Baw Shire Council has a statutory obligation to inspect, maintain and repair these roads. The Road Management Plan sets out how council manage and repair the local road network to ensure it is safe and accessible.

Have your say

Service standards specified in the Road Management Plan apply to all roads included in council's Register of Public Roads and all paths included in the Register of Paths. The draft plan outlines:

• Road classifications and service standards based on current budgets
• Inspection frequency schedules
• Various types of defects and specified maximum timeframes for repairs
• How we manage road safety risks

All feedback provided within the consultation period, which will run from 15 July to 15 August 2025, will be considered before the final plan is presented to council for adoption. Community members can review the draft plan by visiting Baw Baw Connect website.

A copy of the draft Road Management Plan can be downloaded or inspected via hard copy on request from Baw Baw Shire Council customer service centres. Any person wishing to make comment on council's proposed Road Management Plan may (under Section 223 of the Local Government Act 1989) make a written submission addressed to the Interim Chief Executive Officer, Baw Baw Shire Council, PO Box 304, Warragul, Victoria 3820, or by emailing bawbaw@bawbawshire.vic.gov.au.
