Construction begins at Gippsland Water Clarkes Road 50ML treated water basin to secure Traralgon drinking water supply
Gippsland Water has begun constructing a 50ML treated water basin in Traralgon to meet future demand, support population growth, and ensure a reliable water supply during peak periods.
Construction is underway on a new 50-megalitre treated water basin at Gippsland Water's Clarkes Road site. Gippsland Water recently awarded an $8.3M contract for the construction of the new basin in Traralgon. The basin will help to secure the future water supply for the Traralgon water network after its completion.

Traralgon water upgrade
Managing director Sarah Cumming said the upgrade was critical to enable the ongoing provision of reliable and safe drinking water for the growing town. "We recognised a need to make a series of big infrastructure upgrades to the water supply network that services Traralgon, which includes constructing a 50ML treated water basin at Clarkes Road. The new basin will ensure there's enough storage available to meet peak day demand into the future."
Ms Cumming said predicted growth of the region would see the Traralgon water treatment plant needing to meet higher peak day demands in the future. "The upgrade will support the growing population and enhance our ability to meet water demand in the peak of summer. The new basin will safeguard water supply by providing additional storage without needing to upgrade the plant."
These works are aligned with a series of upcoming projects to upgrade the water supply in the region which will cater for growth and boost resilience. Customers can find out more about the Clarkes Road Water Basin project at Gippsland Water website.
