Protecting historic photographs

Mr O'Brien said the Society will receive $1,158 to assist with its photograph digitisation and restoration project, ensuring that important pieces of local history are preserved for generations to come. "The Leongatha and District Historical Society does outstanding work preserving and sharing the rich history of our region, and this project will ensure valuable historic photographs are protected and made more accessible to the public," he said.

The Local History Grants Program, administered by Public Record Office Victoria, supports community groups working to preserve, record, and share Victoria's history. Mr O'Brien said grassroots historical societies play a vital role in maintaining our heritage and connecting people with their past.

Preserving local history

Mr O'Brien said, "The dedicated volunteers like those at Leongatha and District Historical Society do an incredible job capturing stories, images and documents that might otherwise be lost. Congratulations to the Leongatha & District Historical Society - this funding is well deserved, and I look forward to seeing the results of the project."

"These grants are open to all community groups with an upcoming history or anniversary project - from sports clubs to schools and historical societies. I encourage anyone with an upcoming eligible project to consider making an application when round 24 opens early next year," said Mr O'Brien.
