Bat relocation axed over community protests

The plan to relocate thousands of bats from Melbourne's Royal Botanic Gardens to Mallacoota in the state's far-east, has been axed.

The Mallacoota community, including fruit growers, protested strongly against the proposal to transport the bats to Dowell Creek where bat colonies already exist.
