Full-time service for Wellington Mobile Library Wellington Council will provide a full-time mobile library service across the Shire By Wellington Shire Council - 28th June 2002 - Back to News Wellington Council will provide a full-time mobile library service across the Shire from Tuesday 9 July.
Council’s 2002-2003 budget has increased the operational hours of the mobile library to serve the rapidly developing town of Loch Sport twice per week.
In addition to the existing Thursday visits, the mobile library will now also be onsite at Lake Street, Loch Sport on Tuesdays.
"When the service started in July 1986 it operated only two and a half days a week," said Mayor Malcolm Hole.
"Wellington Council increased the service to four days a week in November 1999 with a firm commitment to further develop library services to Loch Sport by extending the Mobile Library timetable.
"We are delighted to have achieved our aim to meet the increasing demand on services as Loch Sport grows."
The Shire’s mobile library serves more than 17,000 residents of Wellington, many living in isolated communities or those who, because of either age or lack of transport, would otherwise have no ready access to a library. It is fitted with a disabled hoist to allow equitable entry by all members of the public.
The brightly painted semi-trailer vehicle carries a full range of library facilities and services, similar to that provided at a standard branch library, including a photocopier. Its stock includes a wide range of interesting and informative books, magazines, talking books on tape, videos and children’s picture and story books. Membership and use of the library service is free.
The mobile library will increase its total opening time by five hours per week, to 24 hours per week, from Tuesday 9 July 2002.
