Crowning Achievement For Local SilversmithLocal, award-winning silversmith Rodney Hammond produces Federation Globe By Latrobe City Council - 28th March 2002 - Back to News The boardroom at Federation Health’s head office in Moe has been transformed by the recent acquisition of a magnificent silver and gold Federation Globe.
Commissioned by Federation Health and designed and produced by local, award-winning silversmith Rodney Hammond, the Federation Globe will adorn the boardroom table and took over six months of painstaking work to produce.
Featuring a carefully crafted set of hands supporting a stylised world globe, the sterling silver Federation Globe stands almost 50 centimetres on its red gum, highly polished base, proudly displaying light green peridots set against a background of nine-carat gold.
For Rodney Hammond, the globe is a crowning achievement for his business, 9.2.5 Silver, which commenced its fledgling business life in the LEAD Centre business incubator at Newborough, and has grown and expanded to new premises in Trafalgar.
According to Federation Health’s Chief Executive, Stewart Cramer, Rodney’s patience, vision and proven ability for getting the job done have resulted in a dynamic sculpture which guarantees maximum impact in the boardroom.
"This fine acquisition also conveys the strong social principals upon which Federation Health was founded back in 1920," Mr Cramer said.
Commencing operations as The Yallourn Medical and Hospital Society Benefit Scheme with five State Electricity Commission employees subscribing 1/- per week, eighty years later Federation Health now has 8,500 members, 60% of whom are resident in the Latrobe Valley.
In accepting the Federation Globe, Mr Cramer paid tribute to the vision and social conscience of those five employees who instigated the medical scheme based on the Welsh Mines Lodges to cover those working in the Old Coal Mine at Yallourn North.
"The Federation Globe symbolises the unity with which those first members shared their future vision, and Federation Health’s holistic approach to total health care is represented by the hands supporting the globe," Mr Cramer said.
"A past heritage has finally been sculptured to connect with the future as Federation Health, with its 80 employees, continues to increase its market share in total health coverage," Mr Cramer added.
