Boosting Rosedale economy with support for wine enterprise

As part of its commitment to support the advancement of the Rosedale economy, Wellington Shire Council has provided expanding local business Tyler Wines with a five-year lease to operate out of the former Rosedale Shire Works Depot.

By Wellington Shire Council - 22nd April 2005 - Back to News

Run by Peter Tyler and his son Ben - an award-winning wine maker with some eight years experience in the industry - Tyler Wines was established little more than a year ago at the family’s Willung farm in the shire’s west. It has rapidly outgrown these premises and the former Works Depot in Cansick Street, which is owned by Wellington Shire Council is ideal to meet the company’s expansion needs.

Tyler Wines have signed a five-year commercial lease for the site, which has been vacant for 10 years, and will be bottling of over 17,000 litres of wine with popular varieties including chardonnay, shiraz, cabernet sauvignon and pinot noir.

The company will sell its wines directly to Gippsland restaurants and liquor outlets, and is exploring the development of a client base who can purchase the wines via the internet.

Said Wellington’s Mayor Peter Gault: "Wellington Shire Council has provided ongoing support to assist with the relocation and expansion of Tyler Wines. This council has several economic development programs operating across the shire which are dedicated to assist with the growth of new and existing industries.

"We are very pleased that this site is being put to a very positive use that will benefit the local economy and wine industry. This is great news for Rosedale."
