Yallourn Energy Victorian Country Volleyball ChampionshipsA record thirty five teams have entered the Yallourn Energy Victorian Country Volleyball Championships to be held at the Moe Newborough Sports Centre over the Queen’s Birthday long weekend, June 12, 13 and 14. By Latrobe Valley Volleyball - 9th June 2004 - Back to News "This event will bring over three hundred players and many friends and supporters to the Latrobe Valley" said local volleyball association secretary Howard Williams. Teams from Latrobe Valley, Churchill, Moe and Morwell will compete against visitors from across Victoria including Bairnsdale, Korumburra, Ballarat, Bendigo, Geelong, Bellarine, Horsham and Warrnambool. "The local volleyball association has been well supported by Latrobe City to upgrade the volleyball equipment at the Moe Newborough Sports Centre in preparation for this state-wide event", Mr Williams added.
The teams will compete in four different divisions for men and women as well as junior boys and girls. In addition to the Latrobe Valley men’s and women’s teams in division 1, the Morwell women and junior girls will be defending their titles won in Warrnambool last year.
Nearly one hundred matches will be played over the weekend with play beginning at 8.30 AM and continuing until 9.00PM Saturday and Sunday. The finals will be conducted on the Monday with the juniors beginning at 11.00AM, Division 2 men and women at 11.30AM followed by the Division 1 finals starting at 1.00PM Spectators are welcome throughout the weekend.
