Local CFA officers honoured for bravery

Courageous Trafalgar fire fighters receive award in tribute for courageous rescue attempt

By Marvin Phoenix - 18th May 2000 - Back to News

Trafalgar fire fighters Danny Mynard and Geoff Morland received the Valour Award, one of only 10 presented in the history of the CFA

In August 1994, the two men were called to a house fire in Trafalgar. When they arrived they were informed that two children were trapped inside the house. The pair wasted no time in searching the home, finding the body of one child. The other had escaped out the back.

Physical damage was temporary internal and external burns, on each officer. However, the tragedy comes with more permanent damage, the bittersweet memory that has left its mark on both fire fighters.

CFA chief officer Trevor Roche has been quoted as saying, "The extreme risk to their own lives demonstrated their dedication to saving life and property".

Latrobe Valley fire fighters representing the highest service and traditions of the CFA is something we can all be proud of.
