Cowes Transit Centre un-veiled Transit Centre and All Day Car Park will be located close to the centre of town, off Church Street behind the Cowes Cultural Centre. By Portal Admin - 20th May 2018 - Back to News The Cowes Revitalisation Project has reached its next stage with the un-veiling of the detailed designs for the Cowes Transit Centre and All Day Car Park by Minister for Regional Development, The Hon Jaala Pulford, on Thursday, 19 April.
The Transit Centre and All Day Car Park will be located close to the centre of town, off Church Street behind the Cowes Cultural Centre. It will provide 110 all day car parking spaces, a bus transit and stopping area, a taxi rank, public facilities, bicycle racks, vehicle charging points and a road link between Church Street and Chapel Street.
The total estimated project cost is $2,252,000. Regional Development Victoria has made a contribution of $900,000 with Bass Coast Shire Council contributing the balance.
Bass Coast Shire Council Mayor, Cr Pamela Rothfield, explained that the Cowes Transit Centre will make a significant difference to the experience of people visiting Cowes, and also to the residents.
"As well as a transit solution for tour buses and taxis, the site will have additional amenities which include a public toilet, bicycle racks, and provision for vehicle charging points. It will have an improved access compliant design which will create a more connected and more inclusive experience for all," Cr Rothfield said.
"It has been wonderful to work closely with key stakeholders through this design.
"Discussions with representatives from local business and user groups regarding disability access, layout, amenities and design have ensured that we will end up with a Transit Centre which the whole community can benefit from."
The Transit Centre and All Day Car Park will also provide concrete footpath connectivity from the Transit Centre and Car Park through to the main streets of Cowes. Installation of raingardens at the site will also improve storm water quality.
The expected completion date for the project is November 2019.
