Householders reminded to bring out their nasties

Householders have been reminded by Council that the ‘Detox Your Home’ collection takes place in Latrobe City this Saturday 20 May.

By Latrobe City Council - 17th May 2006 - Back to News

The ‘Detox Your Home’ collection taking place between 8am and 11am at the council depot in Driffield Road Morwell, provides householders with an opportunity to dispose of harmful products, safely and cost free.

Waste education officer, Peter Collins, said that the ‘Detox Your Home’ collection is the ideal way to dispose of many unwanted hazardous products such as aerosol cans, insect sprays, polishing products cleaning products, pharmaceuticals, mothballs, paints, paint strippers, fertilisers, and fungicides.

"Go through the home, workshop, garage and garden shed and seek out all kinds of chemical and hazardous products which are unlikely to ever be used again, and have them disposed of in a proper manner," Mr Collins suggested.

"There are all kinds of household nasties that accumulate over a number of years that are unwanted, cause harm to the environment when disposed of inappropriately, and are often a risk to young children. This collection is the perfect opportunity to get rid of them.

"Weed killers, transmission fluid, fuels, oils, acids alkalis, photographic chemicals, gas cylinders, old car batteries and pool chemicals can all be disposed of safely by taking them along to the householders’ collection.

"Householders can just turn up at the council depot on the day. The only proviso is that no single item can exceed 20 litres," Mr Collins added.
