SMS - the advertisers new best friend

Though the concept is still reasonably small and largely confined, the SMS market is opening as a new portal for advertisers. It’s simple, fast and direct to the consumer. Though it is yet to become mainstream, this is one marketing tool that could quite possibly work.

Party promoters are moving away from pole-plastering, placing ads in free streetpress and handing flyers to bleary-eyed clubbers staggering loosely out of venues. The night club industry's adoption and use of SMS, (text-messaging) has converged the use of text and viral marketing all in one hit.

And it appears to be successful. In fact, one of Sydney’s top night venues has adopted this method as a means of advertising to its patron database as one of its major plans of attack. Upon canvasing about 400 people who had supplied their phone numbers to the club, they received 250 replies!
