A judge from the Keep Australia Beautiful - Tidy Town awards visited the town on Wednesday, 13 July. The judge, Tony Wissenden, met the Inverloch Community Plan Group members, Cr Ross Smith and Bass Coast Shire Council officers at the Inverloch Community Hub. Council’s Community Planning Facilitator, Chabrelle Chishom, said the awards encourage, motivate and celebrate the achievements of rural and regional communities across Australia. "It is very exciting that Inverloch is in contention for the award," said Ms Chisholm "Tony Wissenden was shown the best of what Inverloch has to offer including some of Inverloch’s greatest assets including the Inverloch Community Hub, Library and Visitor Centre. "We also had tours of the Inverloch Kindergarten, the new Primary School and the police station. With the sunshine out we had a walk through Rainbow Park and the Glade," explained Ms Chisholm. "Tony told us how impressed he was with what he had seen already. This was certainly very encouraging to hear. "He also revealed he was not new the area and had enjoyed going to the Inverloch Jazz Festival." Ms Chisholm said the visit also included excellent presentations on the Rocket Shed history and the Ripple. "We also took a drive through the foreshore Caravan site, a walk through Broadbeach Resort and the Big 4 Caravan Park," said Ms Chisholm. "Tony was also delighted with the presentation given about 'Dinosaur Dreaming' and the dig site. This was a subject close to his heart having previously worked as a Geologist. "It was fantastic to see all the various Community Groups and Council come together to present Inverloch at its best. We will be eagerly awaiting the results later this year," said Ms Chisholm. Council’s Waste Manager, David Owen, said Wonthaggi also had a visit from the judge who inspected the work being done to protect and enhance our local environment. "As part of our public recycling campaign we rolled out 70 new public place recycling bins across the towns in Bass Coast," said Mr Owen. "We were able to give Tony an update on what had been done and the impact this has already had on the amount of rubbish going into landfill." The winner of the Judge’s Award will be announced on between August and November of this year. Source: http://gippsland.com/ Published by: news@gippsland.com Related Articles
