Resealing Program Begins

Bass Coast Shire Council’s annual road resealing program will get underway next month.

By Bass Coast - 7th December 2010 - Back to News

Acting Infrastructure Director, Felicity Sist, said weather permitting, work would start early December.

"The resealing program is an important part of maintaining our sealed road network and providing safe roads," explained Ms Sist.

"Over 90,000 square metres of road surface will be treated, in urban and rural areas."

Council maintains approximately 500kms of sealed roads, and a further 500kms of unsealed roads. Resealing is an economical way to extend the life of a sealed road.

"Resealing involves putting another layer of bitumen and stone on the surface, which usually lasts up to 15 years," said Ms Sist.

"The timing of the reseal is also very important. The reseal is vital in assuring the road surface is safe to drive on and it is best to reseal roads before the surface deteriorates too much."

"This avoids expensive preparation work, which is better for our budget in the long term."

Roads that will be resealed include Dalyston Glen Forbes Rd, through ‘The Gorge’ and Cowes Rhyll Rd, from Newhaven Rhyll Rd to the transfer station.

A number of roads in Wonthaggi, Corinella and San Remo are also being treated.

"This work will be completed by contractors and they will be informing directly affected residents via a letter drop.

"If anyone does have any concerns, they can contact our Infrastructure Maintenance Department on 1300 BCOAST (226 278)."
