Visit Gippsland's First Virtual Library

Cruise the shelves of East Gippsland's libraries without leaving your home or office

By Emma Kae - 26th March 2002 - Back to News

The East Gippsland Shire Library is now online!

As part of the online services offered to you by the East Gippsland Shire, the library catalogue is now available on the Internet. Now you can stroll the library isles from the comfort of home! Simply visit the Shire website, click on the Online Public Access Catalogue link and the library is yours to search and discover.

Please note: At the time of publishing the virtual library was experiencing some tempoary problems. The website is expected to be fully functioning by the close of Tuesday April 2nd.

You can search for any of the library’s resources. Simply type in your keyword (such as the author’s name, the title of the book, or the subject you are looking for) highlight the type of keyword that you used (from the drop-down menu), select from Keyword Search or Browse Alphabetically options and away you go.

The results will indicate which books can be found in the library, and which of those listed are presently available for borrowing. For a tiny $1.10 charge, members of the East Gippsland Libraries can even place reservations on the book they wish to borrow, and specify the library location they wish to collect the book from.

Each listing includes full book details, such as author, title, call number, publication details, physical description and the all-important ISBN number.

It’s great to see such innovative local projects up on the Internet for the public to use. Imagine the convenience of being able to select a specific book, check its availability and reserve it for collection, all before you leave the house!
