Kara Describes Slide As ‘Wormtastic"Lucknow Primary School student Kara Henry, 9, from Bairnsdale has won the East Gippsland Shire Council’s "Name the Slide Contest." By East Gippsland Shire Council - 29th November 2004 - Back to News Kara entered Council’s web site based competition with the name "The Wormtastic Slide."
Presenting her with a Winner’s certificate and book Mayor Cr Harvey Bates said the name reflected the spirit of the new 16.8 metre slide.
"Her name captures the concept of the slide’s shape and the sensation kids get when they use it," Cr Bates said.
Six finalists were chosen from the entry list after which the Mayor made his final selection
"I congratulate Kara on winning the competition from an entry list that numbered into the hundreds and made the selection process very difficult," he added.
After taking the first official slide Kara described the experience as ‘fantastic."
Finalists and their entries were:
- Alice Walsh from Koscioko St School, Traralgon - "Big Yellow"
- Caitlan Rettino St Mary’s, Bairnsdale - "Tunnelweb"
- Isaac Woodhouse, West Bairnsdale Primary School - "The Yellow Bodied Slither Snake"
- Laura Rowe, St Mary’s - "Wiggly Waggly Wobbly Worm"
- Ryan Kaeser, Lucknow Primary School - "Supa Dipa"
Cr Bates said the contest had been a great success and thanked the primary schools in the region for their support.
