Mr Northe said submissions were due Monday for the grants program which offered communities and volunteers practical opportunities to improve their local environment.

"The grants help local groups deliver projects which protect and enhance the natural, cultural and heritage values of our parks and reserves," Mr Northe said.

Mr Northe said the grants were available to community-based groups and not-for-profit organisations such as friends groups, service clubs, cultural groups, migrant resource centres, schools and historical societies.

A total of $430,000 will go to successful applicants across the state.

Previous successful community projects include tree planting days, pest animal and plant works, information signs, books and information events.

"Submissions are due by Monday 21st August so I encourage interested groups to quickly work on an application to have the chance to receive part of this valuable funding," Mr Northe said.

"There are many parks and reserves in the Morwell electorate that would benefit from one of these grants and I know there are also many hard working groups and volunteers who would appreciate the financial help."

The Healthy Parks Healthy People Community Grants Program aims to improve the health of our parks and improve the health of volunteers and visitors that contribute to and visit them.
