Extra Library Hours at Wonthaggi Library

Wonthaggi Library will increase its opening hours by 7% from January 4, 2006.

By Bass Coast Shire - 5th December 2005 - Back to News

Wonthaggi Library will also introduce a regular weekday opening time of 10 am as identified in the West Gippsland Regional Library Corporation "Service Hours Review".

"The new hours reflect the partnership between Bass Coast Shire Council as the funder of library services and the Corporation as the deliverer of the service," said John Murrell, Chief Executive Officer for the West Gippsland Regional Library Corporation.

"With Council’s allocation of funding the community will be able to access resources in the lead up to the time when Bass Coast obtains a principal library for the Shire."

Wonthaggi Library handles over 38,000 visits a year, lending 65,000 items in that period. Staff Terry Harrison, Bernadette Miles and Yvonne McRae are keen to welcome you and show you how to easily find what you are looking for.

Hours from January 4, 2006 will be:

Monday: 10am - 6pm

Tuesday: Closed

Wednesday: 10am - 6.30pm

Thursday: 10am - 6pm

Friday: 10am - 6pm

Saturday: 9.30am – 1pm

"Libraries have changed with the times," said Mr Murrell.

" You can now borrow DVDs, videos, music CDs, talking books on CD and cassette, and magazines as well as the regular fiction and non-fiction books for all ages.

Library membership is free and members can borrow up to twenty items at a time, and access any of the 14 West Gippsland libraries across the region. Visit the website www.wgrlc.vic.gov.au to access electronic reference materials, magazine articles and newspapers AND place items ‘on hold’ anywhere in the region for you to pick up at your most convenient library service point.

The library also has three computers available for use by members, an excellent resource for students who don’t have computers at home to do necessary homework research, surf the net or just email friends

If you aren’t familiar with the Wonthaggi Library, come soon and check it out. The Library is located at 74 Watt Street, Wonthaggi.

And just a reminder that Wonthaggi Library is also taking part in the "Read around Oz" campaign, which aims to engage and occupy young people of all ages in reading and sharing books. The campaign runs from Friday 2 December 2005 through to Monday 16 January 2006.
