By Malcolm Lawrence - 8th December 2004 - Back to News

Neighbourhood Watch Area LTB1, Bridle Estate.

Area Manager, Carmen Cook 5134 1920.

Next Meeting

When: Monday 20th December 2004.

Time: 7:15 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Where: Salvation Army Hall,

Bridle Road, Morwell.

The December meeting will be the last for 2004. There will be a short get together afterwards. Residents are asked to please bring a plate of supper to share.

At the November meeting the guest speaker was Aidan Taylor from the Office of Housing which manages government housing in this area. They manage 547 properties in Morwell, 48 are on the Bridle Estate. Some residents expressed concern over the condition of the houses. The tenants are required to mow the grass, maintain the grounds and not allow the accumulation of rubbish. Any resident who feels a that a property is not being maintained in the appropriate manner, can contact the Office of Housing on 51362400 and ask for Kylie Jones.

Acting Sergeant Alan Dye also addressed the meeting, dealing with the current spate of thefts from cars. The thieves are targeting cash. If a wallet, handbag or purse is visible in the car, the thieves will break a window to steal the money contained in these articles. Where there is no visible sign of money the car is often ignored.

The Christmas holiday period has traditionally been the most important holiday period on the Australian calendar. During this period there is a dramatic increase in traffic throughout the State, which in increases the potential for accidents on the road system. Holiday periods are times for relaxation. Road trauma should never have any role in these periods. The most disappointing factor about the road toll is that almost all crashes are avoidable, if people simply complied with the traffic regulations.

The message is very clear. Be careful and follow these simple rules.
  • · Don’t speed, comply with all speed limits
  • · Don’t drink and drive (Consider also any medication you are taking - if you have any doubts consult your Doctor)
  • · Never drive when fatigued. Don’t undertake a long journey after work, it is safer to get a good nights sleep at home and leave early the next morning. If you get tired while driving change drivers or pull over and have a power nap.
  • · Be aware and alert to traffic around you.
Above all, have a great break and enjoy your yourselves.

We would like to thank S/C Brendan Clifford, Carmen Cook, Fay Azzopardi, Dave Soutar, Zone Leaders, and Volunteers who deliver the newsletters, for their untiring efforts to keep our Neighbourhood Watch Area running. It would not function without you
