Fun Day At Chisholm

Members of the Bass Coast Children’s Provider Network are holding local events to celebrate Children’s Week which runs from 24 October to 1 November.

By Bass Coast Shire Council - 16th October 2009 - Back to News

Bass Coast Shire Council’s Community Services Manager, Liz Wright, said Children’s Week celebrates the right of children to enjoy childhood.

"Children’s Week is a national event recognising the talents, skills, achievements and rights of young people.

"It’s based on the articles in the United Nations Convention on the Right of the Child, highlighting play, wellbeing and protection.

"Children’s Week in Bass Coast will kick off on Saturday, 24 October at 11am, with range of fun, free children’s activities at the Chisholm Institute.

"Childcare students at Chisholm are preparing activities like face painting, mask making, craft, summer safety activities, story telling and a puppet show.

"The students have been busy packing free show bags with goodies for children and families," said Ms Wright.

In previous years activities have been held at various locations across the Shire.

"The Network is trying a different format this year, holding all the activities at the one location, allowing a ‘one stop shop’ of activities," explained Ms Wright.

"We’re very grateful to Chisholm for taking the lead role this year."

Parents will have the opportunity to tour the campus, explore course options, purchase second hand books and enter the free door prize.

Children’s Week is an annual event celebrated in Australia during the fourth week in October to coincide with the United Nation’s Universal Children’s Day. This year’s theme is active and healthy lifestyles.

Refreshments on site will include a sausage sizzle, coffee and children’s drinks.
