Bass Coast is hosting a full program of local events, forums and social activities as part the Victorian Seniors Festival in October.

By Bass Coast - 4th October 2011 - Back to News

The Festival extends across Victoria with hundreds of events for seniors being held during Festival week from Sunday, 2 October until Sunday, 9 October, with additional events through the rest of October.

Bass Coast Shire Council Community Strengthening Manger, Antoinette Mitchell encouraged everyone to take a look at the range of events being organised across Bass Coast.

"Many of these events are free and festival goers should consult the full program for event times and booking details (PDF 665kb).

"Something to take advantage of is free metropolitan and regional public transport which is available on selected days and includes V/Line travel.

"Free travel provides a wonderful opportunity for seniors to take a day out with friends, travel to a new place and try something different, like a concert, golf or a fitness class," said Mrs Mitchell.

Metropolitan trams, trains and buses are free for Seniors Card holders for the week. Regional town services are also available for the week in some areas, including Wonthaggi. V/Line rail and coach travel is free to those with a Seniors Card on the following dates: Sunday, 2 October, mid week from 4 to 6 October and Saturday, 8 October.

The program of events includes:

  • Wonthaggi Festival of Golf – Veterans Golf Classic.
  • Country Concert with Ernie Sigley – A FREE concert is being held at Korumburra Recreation Centre on Friday, 8 October 2010. Ernie Sigley will be performing. Council has organised free coach transport to the event for seniors card holders, with pick-up points at V/line bus stops.
  • Council is hosting two FREE Seniors Forums with Carers Victoria.
  • Wonthaggi Aquatic and Leisure Centre (YMCA) is hosting a FREE Fun Fitness and Strength session, and YMCA Wonthaggi is hosting a FREE Aqua Movers session.
