Stormwater Workshop

Improving the quality of stormwater drainage was the focus of a recent workshop hosted by Wellington Shire Council.

By Wellington Shire Council - 20th April 2006 - Back to News

Neil Breeden, Infrastructure Planner for the Wellington Shire Council said that improving stormwater drainage is important.

"This water ends up in our lakes, rivers and streams. We are working hard to reduce contaminates that enter into our stormwater drains and to protect our water ways" he said.

The workshop provided an opportunity for the relevant organisations and agencies to meet together to discuss solutions.

"We are working together to improve the outcome for our environment and in turn for our communities" he said.

Wellington Shire Council, Environment Protection Authority (EPA), West Gippsland Catchment Management Authority and the East Gippsland Shire Council were all represented at the workshop.

The workshop included discussions on protecting stormwater quality from building sites, street construction and designing natural systems to improve stormwater quality. The group also inspected a gross pollutant trap recently installed in Cunningham Street to protect Flooding Creek.
