Bass Coast Shire Council is holding two information session to help the community understand the impact of the proposed changes. The sessions are in Wonthaggi at 2.00pm and Cowes at 7.00pm.

A full copy of draft Local Law No. 1 ‘Neighbourhood Amenity’ is available on Council’s website and may be viewed at Customer Service Centres and Bass Coast Libraries.

Community and Economic Development Director, Steven Piasente, said Council was encouraging as many people as possible to look at the proposed law.

"We are keen to help interested people learn more about the contents of the proposed law, as the changes may impact on you, your property or your business," Mr Piasente said.

"At the two community information sessions on Wednesday, 16 May 2012 there will be an opportunity for you to ask questions about the draft Local Law and to learn about making a submission to Council.

"The first session will be at the Wonthaggi Centenary Centre from 2.00pm – 4.00pm. There will then be another session at the Cowes Cultural Centre starting at 7.00pm and running until 9.00pm.

"A number of Council officers, including the Community Safety Manager and the consultant who assisted Council to prepare the draft Local Law will be attending each session," Mr Piasente confirmed.

For anyone who is not able to make it to an information session, a Community Impact Statement has been provided to help explain the proposed changes.

"Probably the easiest way for anyone to get a snapshot of the changes, including details of all new laws, is to have a look at the Community Impact Statement which accompanies the proposed local law. This is available on our website and at Customer Service Centres and libraries. We have also tried to simplify the language and make the proposed law as clear as possible to assist everyone.

"Anyone may make a written submission on the draft Local Law and I encourage you to do so if you have any concerns. All submissions received by Council on or before 4.00pm on Friday, 1 June 2012 will be considered".

For further details about making a submission or requesting to appear before a Special Committee of Council regarding your submission, please visit Council’s website, Customer Service Centres or Bass Coast Libraries. Enquiries should be directed to the Bass Coast Shire Council's Community Safety Manager, on 1300 BCOAST (226 278).
